Near Mint
Near Mint cards may have some imperfections but also may be brand new. Near Mint condition cards show minimal to no wear from shuffling, play or handling. Overall these are in wonderful condition and ideal for a player who wants cards in nice shape for their deck or collection.
These flaws can include but are not limited to:
- Nicks or dings
- Light edge wear
- Light corner wear
- Minor scratches or scuffs
- Other minor imperfections
The acceptable range of cards within the Near Mint condition include both cards with no imperfections and cards with a few minor imperfections.
Too many of these imperfections will cause a card to be graded Light Play.
Light Play
Light Play cards may have minor border or corner wear or even just slight scuffs or scratches. Noticeable imperfections are okay, but none should be too severe or at too high a volume. Light Play will have a little more wear than Near Mint, but are still in good shape and legal for tournaments.
These flaws can include but are not limited to:
- Nicks or dings
- Edge wear
- Corner wear
- Impressions
- Scratch or scuffs
- Other imperfections
- Minor creases
The acceptable range of cards within the Light Play condition include both cards with a handful of minor imperfections and those with a few more noticeable imperfections.
Too many of these imperfections will cause a card to be graded Moderate Play.
Moderate Play
Moderate Play cards can have more border wear, corner wear, scratching or creases than Light Play. Moderate Play conditions have a larger spectrum of flaws and severity, but these cards are still tournament playable in sleeves. While most of these items wouldn’t be recommended for collectors, they are great for people who are looking for a cheaper option for a playable card.
These flaws can include but are not limited to:
- Nicks or dings
- Mild edge wear
- Mild corner wear
- Impressions
- Scratch or scuffs
- Other imperfections
- Creases
The acceptable range of cards within the Moderate Play condition include both cards with a handful of mild imperfections and those with a few more major imperfections that don’t affect card integrity,.
Too many of these imperfections will cause a card to be graded Damaged.
Damaged
Damaged cards may have more wear than Moderate Play and/or can exhibit a significant tear, bend or crease that may or may not make the card illegal for tournament play, even in a sleeve. While most of these items wouldn’t be recommended for collectors, they are great for people who are looking for a cheaper option for a playable card especially for friendly games.
These flaws can include but are not limited to:
- Severe scratches
- Extreme edge wear
- Extreme corner wear
- Larger or more abundant creases
- Water damage
- Writing, ink markings
- Peeling or splitting sides/corners
- Cuts, tears or other structurally compromising flaws
